FLORENCE, SC (WMBF/NBC NEWS) – Rapper Kodak Black, who is charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault in Florence in 2016, was arrested again after he and three others were arrested for reportedly trying to cross the U.S.-Canadian border with guns and marijuana.
According to NBC News, Black, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, and Jeantony Saintmelus, 22, were both booked on suspicion of criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana, state police said. Stetson J. President, 24, and Madarrow D. Smith, 20, were both booked for alleged criminal possession of a weapon.
Black was behind the wheel of a Cadillac Escalade, with a temporary California registration, when he was stopped, state police said. The gun in the Cadillac was a Glock 9mm pistol, police said.
In the Pee Dee, Black is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct. He is only allowed in South Carolina for court appearances, the last of which came in December.
At that appearance, both sides tentatively set a trial date for April. According to 12th Circuit Solicitor Ed Clements, the defense made a request last week to continue the case. Hopes are to now take it before a jury sometime in the fall, he added.
If convicted on the sexual assault charge, Black could face up to 30 years in prison. Clements, however, noted that his arrest this week, "puts a whole new wrinkle on the big picture.”
