SCHP: 1 killed, 2 injured after truck hits tree in Florence County

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed one person and sent two others to the hospital Monday afternoon.

Troopers were called around 4:30 p.m. to the crash scene on High Hill Road, about two miles off U.S. 378.

A 2017 pick-up truck was travelling east on High Hill Road when it ran off the road and hit a tree, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins.

The driver was killed in the wreck. Florence County Coroner Keith VonLutcken identified the driver at 42-year-old Jeffrey Wayne Godwin.

A second passenger was taken by ambulance to the hospital and the third person was flown to the hospital. No word right now on their condition.

Investigators said that no one in the truck was wearing a seat belt.
