PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) – A man accused of robbing a Bank of America in Pawleys Island was shot during apprehension, according to Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jason Lesley said the suspect was shot during a traffic stop on Highway 17 south of McClellanville around 7:33 p.m. Friday.
The suspect was taken to MUSC. His condition has not been released.
Deputies said the suspect lead them on a chase into Charleston County after they said he robbed the Bank of America on Ocean Highway.
Authorities said he went into the bank just before 6 p.m. and handed the teller a note.
The suspect did not show a weapon.
Lesley said the man ran away on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Law enforcement have Highway 17 southbound at Doe Hall Plantation Road while they investigate the shooting.
The Awendaw-McClellanville Fire District have implemented a lane reversal on Highway 17 in the northbound lanes.
The State Law Enforcement Division will investigate the officer-involved shooting.
