Firefighters said the fire has been knocked down and they’re in the overhaul phase of their response, which means they’re making sure the fire hasn’t spread to other parts of the building and that everyone has been evacuated.

Horry County Fire and Rescue spokesman Tony Casey said that a conference was in town and the majority people attending that conference were staying in the building which is known as Lodge 1 and Restaurant.

It’s not clear how the fire started. The investigation is ongoing.
