SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Traffic is impassable in the area of Ocean Boulevard and Second Avenue North in Surfside Beach due to large amounts of water and mud in the street from a water main break.
A WMBF News crew on the scene said there is a large hole in a yard at the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Second Avenue North. Crews from Grand Strand Water and Sewer are on the scene, and workers are pumping water out of that hole and into the street.
Small backhoes are also on scene, according to the WMBF crew.
Neeraj Patel, chief of field operation for Grand Strand Water and Sewer, said a water main was damaged by drilling being done by a cable company around 10 or 11 a.m. Monday.
Patel said water service should be reinstated within roughly three hours. The affected area is from Surfside Drive to Fifth Avenue North, and from the ocean to Dogwood Drive.
According to Patel, some people may be experiencing reduced water pressure. He added that customers do not need to boil water at this time.
