Three arrested, charged after Scotland County gambling sting

SCOTLAND COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - Deputies say a three-month long investigation into an illegal gambling operation led to the arrests of three men Friday. The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office says three men are charged with Felony operating video gaming machines and misdemeanor gambling.

Thurston McCoy Johnson, Robert Lee McCall Jr. and Van Bethea were arrested after the illegal gambling activities were foudn inside the Rockingham Road mobile home.

SCSO says they found large amounts of of U.S. currency, numerous standup push/play video-gaming machines, food commissary items, and surveillance security systems

Bethea, McCall, and Johnson were processed and booked into the Scotland County Detention Center under secured bond amounts of $12,500.00.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.
