MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - It’s all about the stage, signing, dancing and comedy for Socastee High School seniors McKenna Martinal and Madison Pierce.
The two are playing lead roles in the school’s performance of “The Addams Family,” as Morticia and Gomez Addams.
“It feels like I can come out here and express myself a lot more," said Martinal.
The stage feels like home for both,
“I just love being under the spotlight and playing a role to get out of your element; it’s amazing,” Pierce said. “Gomez is so out there. He’s something else completely, and it’s fun for me because I am out there too. So it’s nice to play someone like that.”
“The Addams Family" is a unique show the two encourage people to come out and see.
“'The Addams Family,' like Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Wednesday and Lurch, is the same, but it’s less of an outright funny, but more like ‘The Office’ funny. A dark, satirical humor where it comes off awkward but funny, and to everyone else they sound wild,” McKenna said.
Although theater plays a big role in their lives right, the two have future plans.
“Yeah, kinesiology is more of a solid career, theater can be a little shaky," McKenna said.
"And I’m going into nursing either at University of South Carolina or at Coastal Carolina,” Pierce said.
Performances of “The Addams Family” will take place at Socastee High School starting beginning Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. A Friday, March 8, show will also be held at 7 p.m., while matinees on Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and March 10, will take place at 3 p.m.
