MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Authorities are investigating after the bodies of two dogs were found in trash bags last Saturday on the side of a roadway near Mullins.
According to Marion County Animal Control Officer Fletcher Estes, the dogs were dumped on the side of Ed Smith Road. He added he does not have any information on how the dogs died or who may be responsible for their deaths.
“I do know the dogs were severely malnourished and I think it is unlikely that both of them died at the same time from natural causes. I wanted the public to see the pictures in hopes somebody could identify them and let us know who the owners are,” Estes said.
It is not known if an alcohol bottle found at the scene was thrown out with the dogs.
Felony animal cruelty charges could be brought against the owner for illegally disposing the remains, according to Estes. He said a necropsy was not performed on the bodies to determine the cause of death.
