RAW: Car collides with Myrtle Beach Fire Department engine

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A teen driver is facing a charge after allegedly colliding with a Myrtle Beach Fire Department ladder truck, the audio of which was captured on a WMBF News Facebook Live.

WMBF was live Monday morning at a fire in the Socastee area. During the live feed on social media, viewers could hear the sounds of screeching tires followed by the collision.

The Myrtle Beach Fire Department posted about the incident Friday on its Facebook page as a way to reiterate the importance of drivers slowing down and moving over when they see emergency crews working on the roadways.

“Fortunately no one was hurt and the hit-and-run driver was later caught by Police,” the MBFD posted.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins said the teen left the scene, but turned himself into authorities shortly after the incident.

According to Collins, the teen was charged with driving too fast for conditions. The vehicle was a 2001 Ford SUV.
