Restaurant Scorecard: Thirteen-day old steak found discolored, slimy and with an odor; A sweet treat for smoothie fans
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Thirteen days old shaved steak was found discolored, slimy and with an odor. The cooked chicken and pasta were a week out of date. But, we do have two perfect scores this week and a sweet treat for you smoothie fans.
We begin this week’s Restaurant Scorecard with Surfside Jenny’s at 1013 Glenn’s Bay Road in Surfside Beach. Inspectors observed employees touching ready to eat turkey with their bare hands.
The walk-in freezer was in poor repair. Food in the freezer failed to meet legal standards and had a “Do Not Use” sign. The person in charge told the inspector the food was being held for an insurance claim.
The slicer had food build up, dishes and a tenderizer were stored dirty. Time labels were missing from eggs and pancake and waffle batter on the cook line.
Surfside Jenny’s received an 80 out of 100.
Next up is Original Shuckers Raw Bar 300 North Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach.
Inspectors say the shaved steak was found with a thirteen-day old date marking. They say it had an odor, was discolored and slimy.
Cooked penne pasta and cooked chicken had prep dates greater than seven days from the date of inspection.
The floor in the walk-in cooler storing oysters and beer was found in poor repair.
Original Shuckers Raw Bar receives an 88 out of 100.
But there were two perfect scores this week. Dave And Busters at 1322 Celebrity Circle in Broadway At The Beach and China Dragon at 111 Pavilion Drive in Little River both have a perfect score. Congratulations!
If a smoothie is your thing you’ll soon have a new place to try. Tropical Smoothie is opening on Loyola Drive off of highway 17 in the new Surfside Beach strip mall with Panda Express. In fact, it’s right next door. We reached out to Tropical Smoothie at the corporate level but have not received word on when it’s expected to open.
