MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Christmas is just around the corner and time is running out to check everything off the list.
For those planning on sending gifts through the mail, the clock is ticking. It’s the busiest week of the year for post offices and shipping companies, and it could get a little hectic as time runs out to get those packages under the Christmas tree this holiday season.
The United States Postal Service alone expects to deliver more than 900 million packages and nearly 15 billion pieces of mail this holiday season. Just this week alone, the USPS expects to process and deliver nearly 3 billion pieces of mail.
There’s still time to get Christmas gifts in the mail, but deadlines are fast approaching. Prices to ship only go up from here on out.
Keep in mind, the deadline for standard ground shipping service has already passed for those who are shipping to the west coast. The option now is express shipping.
For those shipping to the east coast, Thursday is the latest day for ground shipping. Also, it’s good to keep unexpected weather-related delays in mind.
At Ship on Site, owner Frank Espinal, said this season he’s noticed people shipping most of their packages early. However, he’s also seen the business pick up starting last week.
Espinal said he’s noticing about a 12 percent increase in volume this year.
