Columbus County, NC (WMBF) - Two Tabor City residents were arrested by deputies following a chase Thursday.
According to a spokesperson for the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office twenty-year old Quentin Montray Vereen and 31-year old Marquita Donta Vereen are being detained at the Columbus County Law Enforcement Center.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, the chase started when deputies noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, as it was parked behind a restaurant on Hickman Road.
The chase, which at times reached high rates of speed, involved a Ford Fusion which entered Horry County and traveled back roads before returning to North Carolina losing control on McCrimmon Extension.
Deputies say the vehicle rolled onto its side trapping Marquita Vereen inside, the other occupants fled into nearby woods.
With the help of multiple agencies, Columbus County Sheriff’s Office located Quentin Vereen hiding in the woods.
Investigators found cocaine, marijuana and other drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, according to the release.
Quentin Vereen is being held on $1,000 bond, currently facing a charge of resisting arrest. Marquita Vereen is being held $3,500 bond facing 3 separate charges of drug possession.
Authorities says they are still seeking one more male suspect.
