ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – A 4-year-old child and a 24-year-old male have been hospitalized after a shooting, according to Sheriff Ken Sealey with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
The child was flown to another hospital to receive care.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. Sunday evening at a home on Modest Road in the Maxton community.
Major Anthony Thompson with RCSO says the four year old was shot in the leg, but it’s unclear how it happened.
Thompson says the 24-year-old who was also hurt is not cooperating with investigators right now.
WMBF News spoke with neighbors who say at first they thought this incident was a drive by since part of the road was closed last night. But Thompson confirms the incident happened inside a home along the 1200 block of Modest Road.
“It’s actually scary to be honest because something like that don’t happen every day so, it was a shock," Krystal Cummings who lives in Maxton said. "It’s scary especially in this area and a four year old? I don’t know how this could actually happen.”
Thompson says it’s unclear who fired the gun since those involved are not cooperating with the sheriffs office.
