MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - For two weeks now schools in Horry County have been closed. So for two Friday’s now the lights on High School football fields have remained dark.
In response to the interruption of high school athletics caused by floods from Hurricane Florence, the South Carolina High School League has adjusted fall sports schedules.
The SCHSL Executive Committee has extended the regular season football schedule to add a Week 11. All games originally scheduled for Week 4 (September 10 – 14) postponed due to evacuations and other weather related issues may be moved to the week of October 29 – November 2. Additionally, the football playoffs will now start on November 9 with the State Championships now scheduled for December 7 and 8.
In addition to the change in the football schedule the SCHSL also extended the volleyball and girls tennis season.
Both Volleyball and Girls Tennis State Finals will be held on November 10, 2018.
The league had extended the swim season however none of the school can take advantage of the extended week. So rather than extend the swim season further, SCHSL has decided schools must now follow the original deadline of 9:00 P.M. this Sunday, September 30, for submitting times for the state championship.
SCHSL says it will continue to monitor issues due to Hurricane Florence and make any adjustments as necessary.
