Baby Boy Horry DNA is back

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE bEACH, SC (WMBF) - Investigators have a more information in the case of Baby Boy Horry, but so far it's not leading them anywhere.

Officials with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) developed a DNA profile of the newborn Wednesday afternoon. According to Lt. Jamie DeBari, investigators also found a mixture of DNA on the Bath & Body Works bag in which the baby was found.

Horry County Police Sgt. Robert Kegler said investigations can now compare DNA samples of any viable suspects that are developed through the investigation to the DNA of Baby Boy Horry.

The baby boy's body was discovered by utility workers around 4:15 p.m. on Dec. 4 in a wooded area off of Highway 544 on Meadowbrook Drive. The body, which authorities say was found by a street, was discovered by a subcontractor working for Horry County Electric.

Based on autopsy results, investigators say the time ranges from hours to several days between the time of birth and delivery of Baby Boy Horry and when it was placed at the site where it was found by utility workers on Thursday.

"There was no physical trauma to the baby, no outward signs or no physical abuse," Horry County Deputy Coroner Chris Burroughs explained, eliminating one possible cause of death. "It's hard to tell if the child died of hypothermia or if the child was deceased when it was placed there."

Baby Boy Horry was buried Dec. 18.

Horry County Police are still looking for any leads to find the birth parents of Baby Boy Horry. They urge anyone with any information to call police at 843-915-TIPS.
