CAROLINA FOREST, SC (WMBF) - For the past five seasons, Lakeitha Alston has been a mainstay on Carolina Forest's varsity girls basketball team.

Alston is one of the biggest scoring threats in the school's history, as the first Carolina Forest player ever - boy or girl - to score 1,000 career points.  Despite the gaudy point total, Alston focuses on individual games, not career accolades.

"One game at a time," said Alston.  "You have to get this game over with then start thinking about everything else."

Making her scoring more impressive, Alston constantly has to deal with two or even three defenders.  It hasn't slowed her down.

"It's quite flattering that they have to double and triple team me and I still get my points," said Alston.  "I have moves to get around those obstacles."

Alston is also a force in the stands, bringing fans to games and making the Panthers home court advantage a force to be reckoned with.

"I have a lot of friends. I love all of them who come support me," said Alston.  "I appreciate that - it gets the game going and the intensity up."

Her coach has noticed the fan increase, too.

"She has a wide diversity of friends," said Carolina Forest Varsity Head Coach Stacy Hughes.  "She's really popular with students here."

Alston says several colleges are interested in her for next year, but doesn't want to say which schools quite yet.  However, she does know what the most important factor in her college decision will be.

"Education's definitely the first thing," said Alston.  "Then their coaching staff and how they are, the whole school in general.  The location of it, too.  I do have a few schools, yes."
