DILLON, SC (WMBF) - The trial for a Dillon County man whose dog mauled a child to death has begun Monday after being delayed two times.

Bently Collins faces one count of involuntary manslaughter and three counts of owning a dangerous animal after the Dillon County Sheriff's Office says his dogs killed John Matthew Davis, 10, in November 2006.

On Monday, a jury was selected for Collins' trial and moved forward with pre-trial motions.

According to police reports from the DCSO, Davis went into Collins' yard where he was mauled and killed, only to be found by his mother, Caroline Davis.

The child, according to authorities, was found on his back with numerous bites and tears in his skin.

As the mother and law enforcement tried to get to the child in the yard, they say the six dogs being held also tried to attack them.
