Carolina has been on the mind of WMBF Chief Meteorologist Rob Hatchell ever since he left for graduate school at Mississippi State University in 2000 after receiving his bachelors from UNC-Charlotte in earth and atmospheric science.

Born and raised in Florence, SC, Rob is glad to be back home amongst friends, family and that Carolina charm he missed so much during his ventures elsewhere. Rob says he does not want to leave the area any time in the near future and hopes to advance his career as Chief Meteorologist at WMBF over the next 10 years.

While other meteorologists will say they've been infatuated with weather since they were young, Rob has always found science, in general, fascinating. He can thank his fourth grade and favorite teacher Mr. Scott for that. However, it wasn't until an internship in college and a little nudge from WMBF News Meteorologist Jamie Arnold that Rob would enter into the field of broadcast meteorology.

Out of school, Rob and his family left for the booming metropolis of Albany, GA, to serve as the chief meteorologist at WFXL-TV. Three years later, Montgomery came calling and Rob found himself in the heart of Alabama as the morning meteorologist for Raycom sister station WSFA 12 News.

"I love everything about being a meteorologist - from the science, the language, and its teachings," explains Rob. "You learn something new about weather every day."

When Rob is not bringing the residents of the Pee Dee and Grand Strand the latest weather conditions, he can be found spending time with his wife, Kelly, and their daughter Caroline.
