MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach police are investigating after two small dogs were found left in a kennel without any food or water by their owners who left ahead of Hurricane Florence.

According to a report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department, officers were sent to a home in the 1200 block of Clark Street on Tuesday in reference to an animal cruelty call.

When they arrived, officers reportedly found two small dogs inside a chain-linked kennel without any food or water, the report stated.

Police learned the people who lived at the home had reportedly evacuated the area and would not return until Sunday.

An officer also reportedly found a small black dog inside the trailer. Police did not know if that animal had any food or water.

Animal control was called and advised of the situation. The two dogs inside the kennel were taken to the local shelter.

An officer was also told to put a hold on the dogs for a criminal investigation.
