PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) – Traffic is being cut off to Pawleys Island ahead of Hurricane Florence and no one will be allowed on the island after 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to a post on the town's Facebook page.
Law enforcement began visiting homes earlier Wednesday and instructing people to leave.
"It is likely that power on the island will be lost some time Wednesday evening into Thursday. Depending on the severity of the storm, power will not be restored for an extended timeframe," the post stated.
Emergency responders will discontinue calls for service when sustained winds are 45 mph or greater, according to the post.
"Please take precautions to secure all outdoor items and any other emergency measures to protect life and property," the post read in part.
The town also announced on Facebook that water would be cut off at 8 a.m. Thursday.
