SCEMD, Horry and Georgetown counties move to OPCON 3 — preparing for 'large-scale disaster'

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) — Emergency operations around South Carolina continue preparations for Hurricane Florence to make landfall. Beginning Sunday, the South Carolina Emergency Operations Center (SCEMD) is fully activated at Operational Condition 3 (OPCON 3).

OPCON 3 status allows agencies to prepare for the possibility of a large-scale disaster or emergency situation.

Beginning at noon on Sunday both Horry and Georgetown Counties upgraded to OPCON 3 status.

On Saturday, Gov. McMaster declared a state of emergency in preparation for the Hurricane making landfall along the Carolina coast towards the end of the week.
