GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – An Aynor man now faces an additional charge in connection with the death of an off-duty police officer during a fight last weekend in Murrells Inlet.

According to a press release from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, 21-year-old Kelton Jess Todd is now charged with involuntary manslaughter, which is in addition to the original charge of assault of a high and aggravated nature.

On Friday morning, a $250,000 bond was set for the involuntary manslaughter charge, according to online records from the Georgetown County Detention Center.

Todd is accused of striking 41-year-old Matthew Mainieri as the Connecticut police officer tried to stop a fight at Uncle Tito's in Murrells Inlet.

Mainieri died at Grand Strand Medical Center on Sept. 3 from head injuries sustained in the incident.

Todd was released from the Georgetown County Detention Center on a $35,000 bond for the original assault charge. He is back in jail awaiting a bond hearing on the involuntary manslaughter charge, the release stated.
