MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – H. McRoy Skipper, Jr., the longtime chairman of the Tidelands Health Board of Trustees, and his wife, Jo, were killed in a car accident Wednesday in North Carolina, according to an online post.

“Tidelands Health and our community have lost two extraordinary advocates and incredible individuals. Words can neither fully express our grief nor adequately convey our gratitude for the opportunity to have known the Skippers,” the post says.

The healthcare provider added their prayers are with the couple’s family. “Their loss, and ours, is immeasurable,” the post also added.

According to NBC affiliate WRAL in Raleigh, NC, William Van Oneal, 61, was charged with three counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle following the fatal wreck.

"This is a day of profound loss for our entire region, Mr. and Mrs. Skipper were the best," said Amy Stevens.

Stevens was close to both McRoy and Jo Skipper professionally and personally.

She said Mr. Skipper will always be remembered for his major contribution to healthcare along the south strand.

"He has been so supportive to invest in healthcare in Georgetown, but also investing in resources in Murrells Inlet , Surfside and now to serve Myrtle Beach, he truly believed in that mission that we had an obligation to our community to provide healthcare where it’s needed," said Stevens.

Chuck Talbert knew McRoy for over 30 years working in the field of accounting and were partners at Webster and Rogers, he too recalled the couple ad kind hearted people and sends prayers to their loved one.

"I’ve lost a partner, a colleague and a dear friend, he was the epitome of a southern gentleman let me say that," said Talbert.

We did speak with the Skipper family who did not have any comment at this time.
