ANDREWS, SC (WMBF) – A Georgetown County man's report that a golf cart was stolen by two armed men turned out to be a lie, authorities say.
According to a press release from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, the report of the theft near Andrews was to try and cover up an illegal sale.
The man initially told deputies he was riding on Slash Street in Andrews at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when two men jumped from a white Chevrolet pickup truck, pointed a firearm and demanded the golf cart, according to the GCSO.
It was later determined the theft didn't occur and the man allegedly sold his mother's golf cart Wednesday morning without her permission, the release stated..
Deputies continue to investigate the case
