FIRST ALERT: Pop-up storms followed by lower humidity for the weekend

Lightning strikes recorded during Thursday's storms

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WM BF) - Showers and storms will remain possible at times through Friday as a cold front slips through the region.

Scattered storms will produce locally heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning in some areas through the evening. Even the overnight hours will feature a few lingering downpours and storms as a cold front slowly moves southward through the region.

Friday will start off mostly cloudy as the cold front remains nearby. A few more showers and storms will be possible at times on Friday as temperatures reach the mid to upper 80s at the beach and to near 90 inland.

The cold front will drop south of the region by late Friday and allow slightly lower humidity to filter in for the weekend. This will make for a slightly cooler and less humid weekend along with a rain-free forecast. Temperatures both Saturday and Sunday will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s.

High humidity and daily storm chances will once again increase by next week.
