CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina University is crediting full-time in-state students $100 per semester on their tuition for the 2018-2019 academic year.

According to a press release, the South Carolina State Legislature appropriated additional recurring funds to CCU, which is allowing the university to give in-state students this credit.

This is following a 3 percent tuition raise that CCU passed in May that impacted both in-state and out-of-state students.

The credit effectively lowers the increase passed in May down to 1.21 percent, keeping costs higher than it has been previously.

The increase would have meant in-state students would be paying an additional $168 per semester, and this credit gives students $100 back, according to David Frost interim chief financial officer and vice president of finance at CCU.

CCU receives less than 6 percent of its total operating budget from state funds, according to the university.
