GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) -- A young man who says his goal is to be a Navy SEAL got some practice in the life-saving business when he rushed into a burning home to save an elderly relative earlier this summer.
On Wednesday, State Senator Stephen Goldfinch presented 14-year-old Jim Brown with an official resolution "in honor of his heroic efforts in courageously rescuing his neighbor." That neighbor was also Brown's great-great-great aunt Pauline Caverly.
On June 2, Brown rushed into Caverly's Garden City home which was on fire and helped her get out, suffering only minor burns and scrapes.
WMBF News spoke with Brown and his family the weekend the fire happened. Click here to see that story.
According to the resolution, Brown credits his bravery "to his family's military background." He says he aspires to one day be a Navy SEAL.
