HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Murrells Inlet woman was arrested after allegedly snorting heroin and stealing hundreds of dollars in merchandise from an area Walmart, with two children in tow.
Online records from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center state 35-year-old Monique Mantell was charged with drug possession, unlawful neglect of a child, shoplifting and petit larceny.
She was released from jail Tuesday under a $12,000 bond.
According to a report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department, on July 8, an officer responded to a shoplifting complaint from Walmart at the Garden City Connector.
Once there, the officer met with Walmart loss prevention, who had the suspect and two children in custody, according to the incident report.
Mantell reportedly confessed to stealing the merchandise, which totaled $317. After having her license ran, the officer discovered that she had an outstanding local warrant.
She was arrested and searched. During the search, the officer reportedly found four wax paper slips with a brown powder substance believed to be heroin, according to the report.
Mantell was then questioned about the brown substance and she confessed it was indeed heroin and that she had just bought it. She then confessed that she had "snorted two bumps" just before leaving to go to the store.
