Police: Suspect in murder of woman found near Palmetto Pointe Boulevard recently died

Horry County Police: Man believed responsible for woman found dead along Palmetto Point Boulevard deceased

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Horry County police say a man who recently died is the one responsible for killing a North Carolina woman, whose body was found in the woods near Palmetto Pointe Boulevard.

According to information from Horry County Police Capt. John Harrelson, the department’s investigators have developed probable cause to establish that Myrtle Beach man William Sneeringer killed 41-year-old Jennifer Fitchett and dumped her body in the woods.

“The Horry County Police Department is unable to formally charge William Sneeringer as he is recently deceased,” Harrelson said in an email.

On July 6, Sneeringer’s roommate told Horry County Police he found his body in the backyard of a home along Reed Road in the Myrtle Beach section of Horry County, according to an Horry County Police report.

When police responded to the report of the possible suicide, they say they found Sneeringer deceased with a shotgun beside him, the report states.

The report also states no one else was inside the home when Sneeringer’s body was discovered.

Fitchett’s body was found June 30 in the woods near Palmetto Point Boulevard and Palmetto Glen Drive.

Harrleson said the investigation continues to develop “as complete a picture as possible” to the circumstances surrounding the Middlesex, N.C. woman’s death.
