HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Police have released the name of the man charged in connection with Tuesday's reported carjacking at the Inlet Square Mall.
Online records from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center state Shaquille Dozier, 25, was charged with carjacking, giving false information to law enforcement, not having a driver's license and failure to stop for a blue light.
He remained in jail Thursday under a more than $50,000 bond.
An incident report from the Horry County Police Department states the suspect was spotted by a portal officer shortly after the carjacking and was recognized because of the description the victim gave to law enforcement.
When the officer tried to stop Dozier on Glenn's Bay Road at a traffic light, the suspect allegedly disregarded the stop light and made a quick left turn. He continued onto Holmestown Road and for a moment stopped and pulled onto the side.
At that time, another officer arrived to assist. As one officer got out of his patrol car and approached the suspect, he reportedly took off in the car, the report stated.
Police said the chase reached speeds of over 100 mph and the suspect almost lost control of the vehicle multiple times.
Then the suspect turned onto Hwy 707 traveling north. He allegedly reached speeds of 90 mph until he tried to maneuver through an intersection. However, Dozier lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the back of a white Ford Edge, according to the police report.
After getting out of the vehicle, the suspect eventually complied with officers' commands to get on the ground.
The victim of the carjacking was unharmed and refused medical treatment at the scene.
