FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – Florence police will not be filing charges after a shooting last month on Sopkin Avenue left one person dead.

According to information from Florence Police Lt. Mike Brandt, officers determined the June 28 shooting death of 36-year-old Kevin Henicks was in self defense. This determination came after the investigation was complete and investigators consulted with the 12th Circuit Solicitor's Office.

Brandt previously said the shooting happened in the 1100 block of Sopkin Avenue on June 28.

One person had been detained following the shooting.
