HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 22, near S.C. 31, left one person dead and four others injured.
7-year-old Alaina Smith of Orangeburg died Saturday from injuries sustained from the crash, according to the Horry County Coroner's Office.
According to information from South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins, the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, when the driver of a 2009 Ford crossed the median after merging from S.C. 31 onto Hwy. 22 and ending up in the eastbound lane.
The Ford struck a 2010 Mercury that was eastbound on Hwy. 22, according to Collins.
Four people in the Mercury were taken to an area hospital for treatment. One of the passengers died from injuries sustained in the crash, Collins said. He added that person was not wearing a seatbelt.
The sole occupant of the Ford was also taken to the hospital for treatment, according to Collins.

Initial reports were three people were injured in the crash.
