Portion of downtown Charleston street reopens after gas leak

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A portion of a downtown Charleston street closed overnight because of a gas leak has now reopened.

Charleston police officials said Spring Street between Rutledge and Sires streets closed because gas leak near 106 Spring Street.

Permanent repairs were completed at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday night, according to Paul Fischer with SCE&G.

The eastbound lane is now open to traffic while crews still work on the cleanup of the westbound side.

    International Drive will not open next week. Horry County officials on Friday agreed to give Southern Asphalt, the contractor finishing the long-delayed project, until July 17 to get the road ready for traffic, county spokeswoman Kelly Moore said.
