ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A suspect was taken into custody after a chase in Anderson County Thursday night, said deputies.

They said the incident happened along SC 187.

According to an incident report from Anderson County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was patrolling int he area of Hwy 24 and 187 in Anderson when he observed a black Nissan Altima traveling with a suspended SC license tag. When the deputy initiated a traffic stop on the Nissan and activated blue lights, the driver immediately accelerated and turned right onto Hwy 187 N, traveling at over 100 mph and nearly wrecking at times.

The report says the pursuit continued even after the Nissan punctured 3 of its 4 tires on a set of stop sticks set out by other deputies, before the driver turned left onto Hwy 76 toward Clemson.

The report said the driver tried turning into a Tri County Technical College parking lot, but failed, going over a large pile of rocks into a ditch. The driver continued into the parking lot where the deputy was able to get beside the Nissan before it came to a stop and the driver stuck his hands out of the window.

The driver, identified as Barry Latimer, told the deputy he ran because he didn't have a driver's license, and denied that there was anything inside the vehicle.

After searching the Nissan, however, deputies located a large black bag in the driver's side floor board containing a large amount of methamphetamine, several hydrocodone pills and a set of digit Z scales.

Latimer was then transported to the Anderson County Detention Center without incident. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

According to the Anderson County Detention Center website, Latimer has been charged with failure to stop for blue lights, driving under suspension, possession of controlled substance and trafficking ice/crank/crack more than 10 grams but less than 28 grams.
