LIBERTY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A woman was airlifted to the hospital and three law enforcement officers suffered minor injuries after a series of crashes on US 123 Thursday night.

According to Easley Police Chief Tim Tollison, Easley police were involved in a short vehicle pursuit on Hwy 123 going towards Clemson when the suspect vehicle crossed the northbound lane of traffic and crashed into a creek.

Tollison said officers were trying to apprehend the male driver and had gotten the female passenger out of the suspect vehicle when the second crash occurred.

Troopers said a 19-year-old Tennessee woman was unable to stop in time when she came across the crash scene. Troopers said she swerved to avoid the vehicles and struck three law enforcement officers and the female passenger in the roadway.

The female passenger, a 39-year-old Easley woman, was taken to the hospital by helicopter.

The Easley police officers sustained non-life threatening injuries, Tollison said. They were treated and released from the hospital overnight.

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office said their deputy was not involved in the pursuit but stopped to assist Easley police with the original crash.

The deputy suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital Friday morning.

Tollison said officers are still searching for the driver of the vehicle officers were initially chasing, who fled from the crash scene.

There was no word if charges would be filed in the crash that injured the officers.
