Police investigating attempted armed robbery at Myrtle Beach hotel

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Police are investigating a reported attempted armed robbery that happened at the Landmark Hotel in Myrtle Beach around 12 a.m. Monday.

According to a Myrtle Beach Police Department incident report, officers met with the victim at a nearby Circle K convenience store. The man said he had just gotten off work and was sitting in his car under the canopy at the hotel while waiting for his phone to charge.

The suspect came to the door of the victim’s car and asked him for some change, the report stated. The man gave him $5.

According to the report, the suspect walked away, but came back a few moments later and started reach in to the vehicle from the passenger side.

“The victim told him to stop and the suspect apologized and stated he needed more money,” the report stated. “The suspect then pointed his gun at the victim.”

According to the report, the victim drove off as soon as he saw the gun and met police at the gas station.

     A Florence man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of drug and weapons charges in General Session Court, according to a release from the Florence Police Department.
