GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Two men were arrested after allegedly stealing a truck from Murrells Inlet and crashing it in Litchfield Beach while fleeing from a deputy on Monday.

David Hoke Ware, 47, of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Michael Preston Huffman, 30 of Jonesboro, Tennessee, were arrested on charges of grand larceny of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for a blue light and siren, according to a news release from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Sean Seebode was responding to a report of a stolen Prestige Farms box truck when he passed a vehicle matching the description traveling south on U.S. 17 Bypass near Pendergrass Avenue, the release states. The suspects refused to stop for the deputy, weaved through traffic in Litchfield, and then caused an accident near Willbrook Boulevard.

The truck turned into the entrance of Litchfield by the Sea, ran across a bike path, plowed through shrubbery at several businesses, and then stopped after striking an oak tree in the parking lot of the TD Bank, officials stated. Both suspects then ran from the truck.

Deputy Seebode chased down the passenger, and Pawleys Island Police officers apprehended the driver minutes later. Both men were checked for injured at hospitals, and then taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center.
