HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A beach hazards alert is in effect Saturday for coastal Horry and Georgetown counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C., the alert is in effect from Saturday morning through evening.
Southwest winds combined with incoming swell will produce a strong longshore current for all beaches Saturday, according to the NWS. The rip current risk is forecast to remain low.
The NWS states it issues a beach hazards statement when threats such as rip currents, longshore currents and other hazards create "life-threatening conditions in the surf zone."
