TRAFFIC ALERT: Accident on Hwy. 17 in Pawleys Island backing up traffic

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) – A serious vehicle accident on Highway 17 near the Fresh Market in Pawleys Island is causing a major traffic backup.

The accident, which is listed as a hit and run with injuries, occurred at about 1:27 p.m. Friday, according to online information from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Northbound lanes of Highway 17 are closed, and traffic is significantly backup, according to a WMBF News employee who witnessed the scene. Midway Fire Rescue was on scene extracting a person from a car.

    The three men who reportedly robbed a North Myrtle Beach bank in May of 2016, then exchanged gunfire with police and led them on a pursuit have been federally indicted. Lance Hardiman, Justin Pressley and Rodrick Berklery, all of Longs, were charged in an eight-count federal indictment for the robbery of the South State Bank in North Myrtle Beach on May 4, 2016, and the ensuing high speed chase and exchange of gunfire.
