MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Ocean’s Keeper is hosting the "March for Science: Beach Clean-Up Edition" on Saturday, April 22.

The cleanup is held in solidarity with the March for Science, which takes place in Washington, D.C. on the same day. This is the group’s latest effort to enhance oceanic environmentalism. The event will take place in Myrtle Beach, just behind the SkyWheel at Plyler Park. All activities will kick off at 10 a.m. and run until 2 p.m.

All participants are asked to bring reusable bags and gloves in an effort to reduce the use of plastics.

“Science is a large priority for our nation and definitely should be for residents of Myrtle Beach," said Alex Roberts, TOK's director of communication and government outreach. "Coastal towns and cities all over the country are being affected from global climate change and rising sea levels. It’s time we take action.”

The Ocean’s Keeper is a start-up organization run primarily by students at Coastal Carolina University. Its primary focus is on oceanic preservation and conservation. Their goal is to raise awareness about issues facing oceans and climate.

More info on TOK can be found here and on Facebook.
