HARPURSVILLE, NY (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach’s own internet sensation Erin Dietrich, also known as ‘Giraffe Mom,’ got to meet April, the giraffe who inspired her viral antics last month, and April's new-born calf.

Video of Dietrich, who was pregnant at the time, wearing a giraffe mask and pacing around her room in an homage to April the Giraffe received millions of views on Facebook when she posted it back in March. She went on to give birth to a healthy baby boy named Porter on March 8, well ahead of her ungulate counterpart, who finally gave birth to a male calf on Saturday, April 15.

On Monday, Dietrich received a call from the news program Inside Edition, she told her fans in a livestream on Facebook. Producers of the show offered to fly her out to New York to meet April, and after consulting with her husband, she jumped at the opportunity.

“It was just such a cool experience to get to meet April and the baby and see them in person,” she said, before reaching over to adjust little Porter’s pacifier. She also got to meet the park's owner, Jordan Patch.

She said she plans to visit Animal Adventure Park again in the summer with her three other children, who were understandably upset that they didn’t get to join her.

“It’s just been surreal, like, I still don’t know – how did this all happen? I was 100 weeks pregnant dancing around in a $16 Amazon giraffe mask.”

Dietrich said she will be back in Myrtle Beach Wednesday.

There is currently a petition to name April’s calf after Dietrich’s son Porter, which currently has 339 supporters. The New York zoo, however, is leaving up to the internet to decide. April fans can purchase votes for the calf’s name here: http://nameaprilscalf.com/
