PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) – A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a pickup truck on Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island, according to Georgetown County Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway.

According to information on the South Carolina Highway Patrol’s website, the collision happened at 8:24 p.m. in front of the Hardee's restaurant on Ocean Highway.

A Ford pickup truck was traveling south on the highway when it struck a 49-year-old man who was crossing the roadway. The pedestrian was killed as a result, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Charges are not expected to be filed against the driver because the pedestrian was in the road illegally.

Ridgeway said the release of the victim's identity is pending the notification of next of kin.
