Carvers Bay Middle School teacher accused of slapping student in class

HEMINGWAY, SC (WMBF) – A Carvers Bay Middle School teacher is accused of slapping a student in class on Wednesday, April 12.

Morgan Minter Roundtree, 29, of Conway, surrendered to authorities on Tuesday and was charged with third-degree assault and battery, according to a news release from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. As of Tuesday morning, he was awaiting bond at the Georgetown County Detention Center.

At about 2:55 p.m. last Wednesday, a Carvers Bay Middle School resource officer was notified of an assault and battery between a student and a teacher, the release states.

According to statements, the altercation began in a classroom as a “verbal event,” the release continues. The teacher is accused of slapping the student when the altercation escalated.

No other significant injuries resulted, the GCSO report states.
