Restaurants in the Grand Strand are working with the American Red Cross to help families who have suffered disasters. Eleven restaurants will be donating their proceeds from a specific day to the Red Cross for their Heroes for Fire Survivors Campaign. Today, The Beaver Bar in Murrells Inlet donated part of their breakfast proceeds to help the cause.
"Once a year we help the American red cross and they came a couple of years ago and I was so impressed with all the things they do other than blood," says The Beaver Bar owner, Leslie Beaver.
Home fires are the most common disaster in the United States. Since July 1, 2016, more than 80 people have been helped after home fires in Eastern South Carolina.
Ten other restaurants are helping with this campaign, including Sea Captain's House, Angelo's Steak and Pasta, Crabby Mike's, and The Original Benjamins.
"It's very much for the local community. The dollars we receive for disaster relief stay here in the local community," said Judy Delsignord, a representative from the American Red Cross. "This helps us to get people back on the road to recovery."
