Broadway at the Beach adding security

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Along with new restaurants and shops, Broadway at the Beach has also added police officers.

"They approached us about extra duty and off-duty programs this year," said Myrtle Beach Police Lt. Joey Crosby.

Broadway at the Beach officials say any time officers are more visible, crime usually decreases.

"Any time we're able to get a patrol car and increase our visibility, we think that that's a positive," Crosby said. It's someone for the public to ask questions to, but also a deterrent for those thinking about committing a criminal activity."

Visitors at Broadway at the Beach have also noticed the change.

"I noticed, definitely. With all the kids running around here you just want to feel safe, and it makes us as parents feel better as well," said one visitor.

Managers at Broadway at the Beach say they hope this effort to increase safety will help bring in more families.
