COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety held a ceremony Monday and honored a local trooper, along with other troopers from around the state, according to a press release from SCDPS.
Lance Cpl. Kenneth M. Small, of Florence County, received the South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper of the Year award at the Blythewood ceremony.
Small, assigned to Troop Eight/Safety Improvement Team, responded to an unresponsive child during a traffic stop on November 10, 2016 and saved the child's life, the press release states.
Gov. Henry McMaster spoke to award recipients, emphasizing the important role law enforcement plays in society and the importance of setting a good example in their communities.
