LAMAR, SC (WMBF) – A Lamar police officer was taken into custody Friday evening for allegedly driving under the influence while on duty, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins.
Online records from the Darlington County Detention Center state that Jerry Allen Russell was booked at 7:52 p.m. on charges of DUI and transporting alcohol in a motor vehicle with the seal broken.
He remained incarcerated late Friday night under no bond.
Collins said the Darlington County Sheriff's Office contacted SCHP for assistance in reference to the officer.
Once troopers got to the scene, they performed a field sobriety test on Russell, which he reportedly performed poorly on, according to Collins. He added the suspect refused a breathalyzer.
