HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – When it comes to college sports, the state of South Carolina has had a banner year.

Now, two Palmetto State universities that have already reached the top took to Twitter on Friday to show their support for the South Carolina Gamecocks, as both the men’s and women’s basketball teams are competing in the Final Four this weekend.

Coastal Carolina University got its first-ever national title when the Chanticleers’ men’s baseball team emerged victorious in last June’s College World Series against Arizona. Then, in January, the Clemson Tigers defeated Alabama to win the national title in college football.

The exchange between the two schools started Friday morning, when the manager of Clemson’s Twitter page tweeted to CCU, asking if they had “big plans for this weekend?”

CCU’s Twitter account manager responded that, in addition to the men’s basketball game, they would be “watching a couple of other big basketball games.”

The Gamecocks’ men’s basketball team is playing in its first-ever Final Four game against Gonzaga on Saturday.

The USC women’s team advanced to Sunday's national championship after beating Stanford 62-53.
