MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Many people love going to the movies, but hate the cost.

While most theaters don't usually offer coupons, it is still possible to lower the cost of a trip to the movies; patrons just have to know where to look.

Check the cost clubs

Those with Sam's Club or Costco memberships can save on movie tickets. Most of the time, members can ask the service desk about discount tickets that are usually a few bucks off.

Discount Days

Ask the theater if they have discount days, which are specific days of the week where tickets are offered at a reduced price. Cinemark Cinemas at Coastal Grand Mall, offers Discount Tuesdays, where movie admission is $5.11 with tax for the entire day.

Check out a matinee

A matinee is before 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and before 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are usually $2 to $3 off the regular admission price.

Customer appreciation perks

AT&T is one phone carrier that offers customers Ticket Twosdays, where two tickets are the price of one. Check with utilities and cell phone carriers to find out if they offer any discounts as way to say "thank you" for being a customer.

Specialty discounts

Most theaters offer discounts for military members and seniors citizens. There is even a local discount for residents that live in Horry and Georgetown counties. Proper ID may be required. Also, check for student discounts as well. There may also be discounts based on an affiliation with certain associations. Fandango also offers programs for free and discounted tickets, but it's based on a person’s online activity and purchases.

Earn rewards

Some movie theaters offer loyalty or rewards programs.  When a person spends money on tickets and concession, they receive points on their card, which later pays for tickets and food, or gives discounts.

Eat before going

Is it too much for the nachos, popcorn and soda? Try eating before going to the theater.

Grab gift cards

Try entering gift card swap sites. Websites like Plastic Jungle will let individuals snag gift cards for cheap. Check to see what's available. Shoppers could snag a $25 AMC gift card for 14 percent off.
