MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - Five Murrells Inlet friends who call themselves "the Powerballers" are now in the $1 million winners club.
According to a press release from the South Carolina Education Lottery, the group that has been playing Powerball religiously for 14 years will split the $1 million prize they won this week. They will each take home $136,000 after taxes.
The five friends go by the nicknames "Hollywood," "Neighbor Mike," "Shark Jr.," "Frankie S. Angels" and "Higgs," the release stated. They bought the ticket at Food Lion #1198 in Pawleys Island. The store received a $10,000 commission.
For the Powerballers, the lucky numbers they played were 2, 9, 27, 29, 42 and Powerball 9.
"We were all flipping out," said Neighbor Mike.
They even called a past member of the group, who dropped about a month ago, to rub in the victory, the release stated.
For now, the Powerballers aren't taking on any new members, as they're happy at five.
"We're all going to kick back, be happy and buy some new toys," said Neighbor Mike.
